Interests of Mine is here to share with you a small snapshot of who I am and what I enjoy.

About me

  • My StORY

My name is Stuart I am forty six years of age; I have been married to a lovely lady called Marion for twenty five and a half years. We have two lovely children Danielle aged twenty one and Samuel aged Seventeen. God has blessed me so greatly with such a lovely family. My life has not always been so pleasant let me share a little of my personal testimony with you.Marion&Stuart
  • I come from a very broken family. I have two sisters and one brother; I am the second eldest. My parents who are alcoholics brought us all up. We were taught that you use your fists first then ask questions later. Something I now realise is not at all true.
  • We endured a lot of physical and mental abuse. As a young boy I have watched in fear and trembling as my brother be whipped with the buckle end of a belt. I still see very clearly in my mind as a nine-year-old I was laid across the kitchen sink with a rifle bayonet held to my throat and told to pray for my life.
What does a boy of that age pray, through fear and tears I said the Lords pray over and over again, I am pleased to say that not one drop of my blood was spilt that day. The lord had his hand on me even then when I did not know him. I could share many harrowing events that took place in my life but I do not want to open up old wounds.
  • There was one incident where one morning my mother was angry and pushed me through the kitchen doorway. As she pushed me I fell over the dog that was lying in the doorway, I put out my arms automatically to break my fall and as I did that the dog bit into my right arm just below my armpit. My mother ordered me to get up off the floor and continue to get ready to go to school. I knew my arm was in a bad way it was difficult to lift up. I went upstairs and got ready for school the best I could and then began the six-mile walk to school.
  • On arriving to school I was asked to go to the head mistress’s office, as I was not wearing school uniform. She gave me a grey school shirt to put on. As I took off my coat she saw the blood all over my own clothes. She took the necessary action to take me to fetch my mum and go to the hospital and have my arm sewn back together. Thirty stitches in total.
  • Life continued after that event I received no beatings for about a month after the dog incident so my arm had a bit of time to heal. Life then returned to the normal cycle of abuse. I could go on and on with horror stories that have filled my life with hurt and pain and despair. All the time I was yearning to be loved. The truth however is that I did not know what love really was.
  • I met a young girl and started dating her all the time searching for the emptiness in my life to be filled. My parents then decided to kick me out and told me to go live with this girl with her parents. They accepted me in for a very short time. At this point I had two sets of clothes to my name they where my only possessions.
At this time I noticed a group of my friends seemed to disappear on a Friday evening. So I asked them where were they going. One of my friends replied we have been going to a youth club. I asked where this club was. They replied in a church. Well I nearly fell over laughing at them. I said in a church, you are all going soft. They quickly replied that it was a place where they could run a mock and cause disruption. That was music to my ears so I agreed to go have a look for myself.
  • I went along to the youth club, which was run at a Pentecostal church and was classed as the leader of our small gang. We used to run riot in there and were thrown out on many occasions. All the time I was attending the youth club I was still searching for the emptiness in my life to be filled. It was at this time that the girl’s parents I was staying at decided I had to leave. This forced me to realize I was going to be living on the street. I was asked to move out on a Friday evening. I had no idea what I was going to do for somewhere to stay. I thought I would be joining the homeless people who live on the streets in the city.
My friend Adrian then spoke to his parents and they offered to let me sleep on the floor of their sons’ bedroom for the weekend. This gave me a temporary solution to a major problem I didn’t know how to conquer. Now this is where God stepped in and things happened that still blow my mind today.
  • My friends had spoken to the youth leaders at the youth club and told them of my situation about being homeless. The next morning I received a phone call at my friend’s house. It was Mike White the youth club leader. He asked me if my friend and I would like to spend the day with him surveying some work at a couple of churches. I agreed to go with him and Mike used that time to tell me about an American family at the church. He had felt lead to tell them about my housing need. They were fairly new people at the church. They were stationed at RAF Alconbury. Mike shared with me that this family was interested in meeting me on Sunday so I agreed to go to the Sunday evening service to meet them.
  • I met them at six o’clock on Sunday evening before the service started. We had a short chat together and at eight thirty after the service they where taking me home with them. I was amazed I didn’t know that kind of love existed. We arrived at their home and within half an hour I was given my own key shown where the fridge was and told I could help myself to anything to eat whenever I was hungry. I was amazed I had never received so much love I didn’t know what to say. I was so used to fighting for everything I needed in life food, clothing and love. Here all this was being supplied unconditionally. My heart was lifted.
  • My God given parents Sharon and Herbert taught me what love really is they were kind, caring, and considerate and with the Lords help started the long process of rebuilding my broken spirit. The love they showered on me still over whelms my heart today. They helped to rebuild my life and help me to understand that you don’t have to fight to feel loved. They helped me to understand what making a commitment to God really means.
  • The commitment Sharon and Herbert had given to me is as strong today as it was that first Sunday I travelled to their home. They are my parents and my children’s grandparents. They have helped to make me what I am today a loving father to my children, a loving husband to my wife and a faithful servant of Jesus. The blessings that God has poured out on my life since being a Christian would take many hours to type out. May be one day I will write a book. I pray the things I have shared may inspire your hearts into realizing that what God has done for me is only the tip of the iceberg. The Lord Jesus loves you with love that is unconditional and longs for you to take hold of his hands that are held out to you. I pray your hearts will respond to his still small voice.
    In Christ’s love Stuart
